SCHOOL BOARD GOVERNANCE
Board Governing Policies Interpretations & Indicators
In July 2023, the WBSD7 School Board adopted the "Coherent Governance" model as a framework to clarify their roles and responsibilities, empowering and enabling them to govern well.
The model includes Student Results Policies, Operational Expectations, Governance of Culture Policies and Board-Superintendent Relationship Policies to guide them in their role as Board members.
Transitioning to the Coherent Governance model initiated the development of these operational expectations and results policies. Since July 2023, one or two policies have been approved per board meeting according to the Annual Work Plan (page 22 of the WBSD7 School Board Coherent Governance).
Not all of the policy interpretations and indicators have been presented to the board for approval yet. The complete set of policies is scheduled to be approved by June 30, 2024.
The School Board's job is to represent, lead, and serve the community and to govern the district by establishing expectations for student achievement results, expectations for quality operational performance, and monitoring actual performance against those expectations.
