Letter from the Superintendent
2023-2024 Annual Report
Dear Williston Basin School District #7 Community,
As we reflect on the past year, I take pride in sharing key milestones that showcase our commitment to enhancing the educational experience for all students.
One notable achievement this year was the successful passage of the 2024 Bond Referendum, which will fund the construction of a new elementary school designed to accommodate 600 students. This development will provide modern learning environments that align with our growing enrollment and community needs.
We also implemented an accountability plan for academic achievement using the Panorama School Data Dashboard. At Williston High School, the introduction of the Freshman House and Teaming framework has contributed to improved Math and Reading scores on diagnostic assessments.
In terms of facilities and infrastructure, the Williston Basin Career & Technical Center remained on track for its fall 2024-2025 opening, constructed within budget. We enhanced safety measures throughout the district, including secure vestibule entry systems, the Standard Response Protocol, and Raptor Technologies. Additionally, we established new security positions at the middle and high school levels, and created four preschool classrooms supported by a Best in Class grant.
The School Board adopted the "Coherent Governance" model, clarifying roles and empowering effective governance. This transition initiated the development of operational expectations and results policies.
We also crafted a comprehensive recruitment and retention strategy, with professional development for administrators focused on Positive Leadership and executive coaching.
To enhance financial transparency, we updated our district website and strengthened our communication strategies. Our advocacy efforts have included presentations to the ND Legislative Committee on School Funding and active participation in the ND School Construction Coalition.
We expanded our transportation services through a contract with Harlow's School Bus Service. Additionally, we initiated a capital projects plan to address deferred maintenance and installed safety cameras on all buses and throughout K-12 schools to enhance security.
In support of our staff, we introduced retention bonuses and fostered a collaborative atmosphere through positive negotiations with the School Board. We initiated a wellness committee and provided benefited staff with free memberships to the Williston Area Recreation Center.
