2023-2024 Annual Report

DISTRICT

Located in northwestern North Dakota, Williston is a hub for the oil industry in the Bakken formation. Williston is an economically diverse and dynamic community with a population of approximately 30,000 people.

Our district has been in existence since 2022, following the merger of two neighboring school districts to form Williston Basin School District #7.

SCHOOLS

In the 2023-2024 school year, our district was comprised of 10 campuses, each contributing to our diverse educational community.

The breakdown is as follows:

Pre-Kindergarten
The district's Pre-K Program, Future Coyotes Pre-K, was held at Williston Middle School Central Campus.

Elementary Schools (Grades K-4)
For the 2023-2024 school year, our district included seven elementary schools.

Of these, five schools are located within the city limits: Hagan, Lewis & Clark, McVay, Rickard, and Wilkinson.

Additionally, two schools are situated north of the Williston city limits: Missouri Ridge, which also served fifth grade, and Garden Valley. This distribution allows us to serve a diverse student population across both urban and rural settings.

Middle School (Grades 5-8)
Williston Middle School Central Campus was comprised of three buildings: Bakken Ridge, Coyote Center, and ASB Innovation.

Fifth-grade students were self-contained on a dedicated floor of Bakken Ridge, while students in grades 6-8 attended classes across all three buildings.

High Schools
Our district features two high schools: Williston High School and Del Easton Alternative High School.

Del Easton was located separately from the Williston High School (WHS) campus due to space constraints. However, starting in the fall of 2024, the school will be housed at the Williston Basin Career & Technical Education (CTE) Center and Del Easton Alternative High School Building, situated on the north side of WHS. This move will provide Del Easton students with improved facilities and access to resources while enhancing their educational experience.

Williston High School continued to serve its traditional high school population, offering a wide range of academic and extracurricular opportunities, including dual credit college courses.

ATTENDANCE BOUNDARIES

As part of our boundary-setting process, we implemented Phase 1 for the 2023-2024 school year, establishing attendance boundaries for Missouri Ridge Elementary based on residence.

Phase 2, aimed at establishing boundaries for all elementary schools, will be established by the end of the 2024-2025 school year, with implementation planned for the fall of 2026 when the new elementary school opens.

ENROLLMENT

For the 2023-2024 school year, WBSD7 had a total enrollment of 5,234 students. This includes 2,639 elementary students (K-5), 1,183 middle school students (6-8), and 1,376 high school students (9-12).

The overall trend shows increasing enrollment in the lower grade levels, a shift largely influenced by higher birth rates over the past decade. This growth is particularly evident in the elementary grades, which account for the largest portion of the district's student population and suggests continued expansion in the coming years as these students progress through the system.

ENROLLMENT ANALYSIS
