Clothing and Textiles I                                                                                                    
 ½ credit
Grades: 9-12
Extra Costs: $15.00 (plus supplies for project)
Description: This course is designed for leisure time sewing.  Topics include textiles, using the sewing machine, and garment construction. Students will complete 2 small projects and a clothing item.  The majority of class time is devoted to hands-on learning.

Clothing and Textiles II

Prerequisite: Clothing and Textiles 1
Extra Costs: $15.00 (plus supplies for quilting project)
Description: This course is designed for leisure time sewing. Topics include weaving, knitting, and quilting.  Students will complete sample items, a small project and a quilting project. The majority of class time is devoted to hands-on learning.

Foods & Nutrition

Description: This course is for the beginning cook. Students will learn how to select, store, and prepare foods such as fruits and vegetables, dairy, eggs, meat, poultry, and quick breads.  Labs are held about once a week and we eat what we prepare!

Housing and Interior Design I

Description:  
This course enables students to explore their interest and creativity in the field of interior design. Topics covered include the principles and elements of design, introduction to floor plans, furniture arrangement, textiles and backgrounds.  Students will develop skills and knowledge through multiple hands-on projects.

Housing and Interior Design II

Prequisite: Housing and Interior Design I
Description:  
This class will build on and expand the skills and knowledge learned in Housing and Interior Design 1. Topics include historical housing styles, furniture styles, acquiring housing, construction, and bathroom and kitchen design. Students will demonstrate knowledge through multiple hands-on creative projects.

Education Exploration

Description: 
Teaching Profession courses introduce students to the principles underlying teaching and learning, the responsibilities and duties of teachers, and the techniques of imparting knowledge and information. These courses typically expose students to and train them in classroom management, student behavior, leadership and human relations skills, assessment of student progress, teaching strategies, and various career opportunities in education.

Child Development

Description: 
This course takes a closer look at child development from conception to young adulthood. We will explore physical, intellectual, emotional, and social development of infants, toddlers, and pre-school age children. Course requirements include field trips, speakers, individual and group projects, and a baby simulator.

Description: This course prepares students for occupations concerned with the preparation and service of food through classroom and laboratory experiences. Content may include: opportunities in the food service industry; safety and sanitation; organization of food preparation and service areas; developing skill in quantity food preparation; menu planning and recipe selection; food purchasing; financial management; and leadership development.

Living On Your Own

Description: This course is designed to help students be successful in their lives both now and as adults.  Students will choose from a wide variety of topics including finances, housing, food, clothing, mental wellness, personal development and more.  The course is primarily self-paced and allows students to explore topics that they feel will benefit them the most.

Alterations & Repairs

Grades: 10-12
Description: Students will learn the fundamental techniques for altering and repairing garments, including hemming, resizing, patching, and replacing zippers or buttons. By the end of the course, students will confidently perform basic alterations and repairs on various types of clothing.

Cultures & Cuisines

Grades: 10-12
Description: This course will explore cultures in various parts of the world in relation to ethnic foods, food supply, preparation methods and traditions. Current, historical and futurist issues related to food patterns and the global society will be an integral component of the course which may include such topics as famine, contamination, religious rites and practices, celebrations and cultural cuisine. Labs will combine the familiar with the exotic to create foods of the world.

Introduction to Teaching

Description: The Intro to Teaching course prepares students to teach and guide others. These courses typically provide opportunities for students to develop their teaching objectives, design lesson plans, and experience teaching in a controlled environment. Students examine and practice teaching strategies, learning styles, time management, and planning strategies, presentation and questioning skills, classroom management, and evaluation techniques.

Peer-to-Peer

Grades: 11-12
Description: This class is designed for general education students interested in developing leadership skills and learning about students with disabilities. The students work together in an integrated, positive fashion, to promote socialization, independence, and strong friendship bonds that last throughout high school and beyond. It will give students the ability to expose their peers to new social opportunities and expand their support network.
