We would like to spotlight two summer food services programs available for Summer 2024:
🍎 Summer Meals Program
🍎 Summer EBT Program (New!)
𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗠𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺:
Williston Basin School District #7 proudly participates in the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), also known as the Summer Meals Program. This initiative ensures that children continue to receive nutritious meals when school is not in session, particularly in low-income areas. Throughout North Dakota, schools and non-profit organizations have the opportunity to provide free meals to kids and teens.
The USDA is committed to utilizing all available program flexibilities and contingencies to serve program participants effectively. For more detailed information on the program, please refer to the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction. nd.gov/dpi/districtsschools/child-nutrition-and-food-distribution/summer-food-service-program
Mid-day meals are served Monday through Friday at four locations in Williston, free for children aged 18 and under and available for adults over 18 at a fee of $5.
Under the Summer Food Service Program, schools and non-profit organizations offering non-congregate meals have the option of providing meals through home delivery or parent pick up. However, the WBSD7 program does not offer home delivery. Written consent from a child’s parent or guardian is required for meal pick up on the child’s behalf to maintain accountability, program integrity, and household confidentiality.
Parents or guardians wishing to pick up meals for their child(ren) without the children present must complete an "SFSP PARENT CONSENT FORM," which is kept on-site. This form only needs to be completed once for each location.
A guardian is defined as a legal guardian or someone with a caregiver relationship with the child. Adults principally responsible for the child's care on the meal day, such as grandparents or other caregivers, are considered suitable guardians for meal collection.
Please note: Childcare providers responsible for whole groups of unrelated children are not considered guardians and cannot collect program meals on behalf of parents or guardians for children under their care.

In summer 2024, North Dakota will launch Summer EBT (SEBT) a new grocery benefits program that provides families $120 for each eligible school-aged child to buy groceries when school is out.
Summer is a time when many children lose the free and reduced-price meals they get at school and when households might need a little extra help putting meals on the table. Most families will get these benefits automatically, but some parents will need to apply. The new program is in addition to free meals that kids of all ages can get at summer meal sites in their communities.
On Monday, April 15, 2024, parents, or guardians of eligible students began receiving emails from the State of ND Health & Human Services EBT program that provide information about the student's eligibility, how to update address information, or how to opt out of the program if they choose.
Parents or guardians may contact the state EBT office if they don’t get an email and want to know if they will receive benefits and/or update their address information.

Dear WBSD7 Community,
Audrey Larson has been selected as the new principal of Williston High School following a thorough selection process by an interview committee. Larson, who previously served as the Career and Technical Education (CTE) Director since January 2023, brings a wealth of experience to her new role.
With eleven years of experience as the Assistant Principal at WHS prior to her promotion, Larson has demonstrated her commitment to the success of WHS students, staff and the Williston Basin School District #7 community.
We are excited and thankful to have Mrs. Larson stepping into the WHS Principal position. We have full confidence in her ability to succeed in leading the WHS Team!
Sincerely,
WBSD7 Administration
A Message From Mrs. Larson:
I am honored to have been selected as the new principal of Williston High School. In the last few years, I have had the opportunity to work with Williston High School’s dedicated staff and talented students. I am privileged to be called their leader.
My journey in education started in a non-traditional way. After earning my Biology degree from the University of North Dakota, my husband Greg and I moved to Rainbow Trail Lutheran Camp where we were both assistant directors of different outdoor ministry programs. During this time, I developed a passion for teaching and leadership. I worked under an incredible camp director who’s training has been pivotal in my leadership journey.
After starting a family, Greg and I moved back to North Dakota with our two young boys to be closer to family. I started my teaching career as a science teacher in New Salem, North Dakota where I implemented many teaching strategies I learned while at camp. While in New Salem, I had a beautiful daughter who happened to have Down syndrome. As young parents, a move even closer to family became important. We moved to our forever home on Greg’s parents’ farm and I continued my career as a science teacher in Grenora. After a year in Grenora, I started as a credit recovery teacher and later became a science teacher at Williston High School.
Williston High School has been my home since! I have served as assistant principal for the past 11 years where I worked under one of the best in Jason Germundson. In my time helping to lead Williston High School, we have experienced incredible growth! I vividly remember taking a picture of our PowerSchool data at the old high school when our enrollment hit 900! We are now 1 ½ times that size.
I am passionate about preparing our students for life after high school. As an assistant principal, I have worked with our staff to double the number of Advanced Placement, dual credit, and career and technical education (CTE) courses offered at Williston High School. As principal, developing and preparing our students for their next steps in life will continue to be a focus for Williston High School.
Williston High School will continue to be a place where students can explore their interests and develop their skills so that they will be successful in whatever path they choose after graduation.
I am grateful for this opportunity. Leading the staff and students of Williston High School is an incredible responsibility, and I am excited for the years to come.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Larson

Dear Parents/Guardians,
We wanted to inform you that we received an email from ParentSquare last night regarding an 𝗶𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗲 𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗬𝗮𝗵𝗼𝗼, 𝗔𝗢𝗟, 𝗼𝗿 𝗩𝗲𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗼𝗻 𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗹 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝘀.
Apparently, parents with those email accounts have not been receiving ParentSquare notifications via email this week. However, they are still receiving messages through the ParentSquare app (if they are using the app).
The email below, from ParentSquare to WBSD7, indicates why the issue is happening and notes that they planned to defer pending emails, so that parents don’t receive old emails at random times. Apparently, that did not work!
This morning, some parents reported receiving notifications from Wednesday (3/27), timestamped for this morning. We apologize for any inconvenience and confusion this may have caused.
𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗦𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗴𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁𝘀 𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻𝗹𝗼𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗽𝗽 to avoid this email delivery issue until the matter is fully resolved.
We are actively employing several communication strategies to ensure parents are informed about this information. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
If you have questions, please email communications@willistonschools.org
Best regards,
WBSD7 Administration
🔶🔶🔶🔶🔶🔶🔶🔶🔶
This email message was sent to ParentSquare District Admin users at 6:20 PM on 3/28/24:
We wanted to provide an update on the email delivery issues you may be experiencing with email accounts managed by Yahoo.
What happened? Earlier this week, users with email accounts managed by Yahoo, including yahoo.com, aol.com, and verizon.com, began experiencing issues receiving emails sent from ParentSquare.
Why did it happen? Yahoo began “deferring” emails sent from ParentSquare, meaning that Yahoo blocked those emails from being delivered. Other email providers, such as Google and Microsoft, have continued delivering ParentSquare emails normally.
What are we doing to resolve the issue? We have been working with Yahoo and our email delivery providers to identify the root cause of the issue. Unfortunately, our providers have not been able to give us much information on the root cause or on how we can work around the issue. We are continuing to escalate the issue to try and get to a resolution as quickly as possible.
We have also canceled all of those “deferred” emails that are pending for Yahoo. This means that they will not send unexpectedly at a later date when the issue is resolved.
What can you do in the meantime? Please encourage your families and staff to install the ParentSquare app on their mobile devices. Users who enable notifications in the ParentSquare app will be able to receive the same messages that would otherwise be sent via email.
We understand the importance of being able to reach all email users in your communities, and are committed to working through this issue to get to a resolution. We will provide an update when we know more about the root cause or how we can work around the issue.
ParentSquare Team
